My passion for skincare has soared to new heights in recent months and during this time my wondering eyes have landed on six items I am dying to try. I believe most are available in South Africa, you just have to do a little digging to find them. So without further adieu here they are...
1. Mario Badescu Drying Lotion
Bye bye pimples! This drying lotion is believed to be a miracle worker when it comes to targeting forming pimples. Before they even have a chance of securing a spot on your pretty face, what I like to call the magic pre-pimple potion is formulated with salicylic acid thus working as an effective acne spot treatment that will shrink ugly whiteheads overnight while you sleep.
How it works...
Use it as a part of your evening routine before bed. After cleansing, toning and moisturising, grab a q-tip (aka an earbud) and dab the drying lotion directly on the whitehead but be sure to not rub it in. Allow it to dry during a restful nights sleep and rinse it off the next morning. They say you can also use this for breakouts on your chest area which is something I have been experiencing a lot lately. Popular YouTube beauty guru Desi Perkins swears by it and it has been spotted in Kylie Jenner's Snapchat too. The Mario Badescu Drying Lotion is R440 at the Mario Badescu South Africa online shop!
2. Ole Henriksen Truth Serum® Vitamin C Collagen Booster
Not all vitamin C is created equal and the concentration in this bottle is formulated with a five source vitamin C complex essential to supporting natural collagen production, minimizing fine lines and wrinkles as well as brightening the skin. It is also oil-free and lightweight so you would use this after cleansing and toning but before moisturising. This is definitely one to have should you have just begun your anti-ageing journey and want to keep your skin firmer and brighter for longer.
Beauty guru's like Paula Begoun are not too impressed about the fact that it comes in a clear glass bottle as this allows light to compromise the products potency and cause oxidisation. And sadly, I couldn't find this in an South African online shops but nevertheless the search continues!
3. Bobbi Brown Face Masque Trio
Your perfect excuse to multi-mask! The new Bobbi Brown face masks are the beauty-boosters your skin needs when you want to deeply cleanse, crave serious moisture or a boost of radiance. Instant Detox is composed with Hawaiian Sea Water and Amazonian White Clay which are favourable ingredients to remove impurities, pollutants and excess oil. Skin Nourish is enriched with Green Aglae and Coral Grass which help to quench dry skin and Radiance Boost is an exfoliating mask formulated with superfine Walnut Grains and Orange Oil crucial for getting rid of dull surface cells and energizing the skin.
4. GlamGlow SUPERMUD™ Clearing Treatment
GlamGlow masks were a cult beauty favourite in the U.S in 2015. Made in Hollywood, California, this clearing treatment in particular has been developed to fight against all common skin concerns such as breakouts, discolouration, whiteheads, blackheads, ingrown hairs, and even razor bumps. It's the presence of Activated-X Charcoal that helps to magnetically draw out dirt and congestion leaving skin feeling smooth and looking healthy. Fortunately this one is available in South Africa at Metropolitain Cosmetics. A few stores exist in and around Johannesburg but you can order from their online store from anywhere in the country. Yay! And look at all that gunk! Love it!
5. SkinCeuticals Clarifying Clay Masque
Okay, so it seems I've been somewhat obsessed with purifying masks! The third one on my wishlist made the cut because of its key ingredient: hydroxy acids (AHAs). Mixed at 5%, this blend of acids will work together in an effort to help gently exfoliate dead skin cells. Of course the next key ingredients, Kaolin clay and Bentonite clay will help to decongest pores, lift impurities and remove excess oils while Aloe and chamomile will help to calm and soothe the skin. This one you can of course get your hands on at the online Dermastore where they deliver to anywhere in South Africa
6. Clarisonic Mia 2 Garden Party Skin Renewal Set
They say you'll never know the feeling of thoroughly cleansed skin until you've invested in one of these. After you have removed your make-up by hand, you'll apply your favourite cleanser on to your moistened face or directly onto a damp brush head. Pushing the on/off button, you will then begin to gently move the brush head in circular motions around your face. The Clarisonic Mia 2 is rechargeable, waterproof and the Garden Party Skin Renewal Set comes in Iced Violet and Pink Pearl finishes. The Clarisonic Mia 2 is available in Suttafords and Woolworths from around R2499.
